Exceptional Care Across Three Compassionate Home Settings

With Taking the Journey, that's exactly what we do. We Take the Journey.

Our residents and their families come to us for the long haul. We handle everything from move in to Medication management to activities of daily living to hospice care. We create a calm and peaceful environment whilst still maintaining activity and enjoyment of life. We have a philosophy routed in attaining as many smiles and laughs as we possibly can in any given day. The happier our residents, their families, and our staff are.... the happier we are. I often say that this is a lifestyle choice rather than a job. It doesn't and will never "turn off". We can't make any promises on where our Physical and cognitive challenges will take our residents. We can however promise that your loved one will receive the care, respect, and dignity they deserve with this incredible life they have lead.

Taking the Journey creates a family type environment. After a tour, we will come out to your loved one, wherever he or she may be currently residing, to do an assessment. The last thing we want is to add any undue stress or anxiety for your family member. We will follow all families leads and approach this step however might suit the individual best. After this step, we look into past medical history, and get a good understanding or where we are, where we were, and where we will be down the line. After a decision is made, we select a move date together. Prior to move in, Kelly and Kisa will do a deep dive into all aspects of care. Once on site, we are in the adjustment period. The first few hours, days, and weeks.... are absolutely imperative for setting up for success. We are all hands on deck and ready to dive into care whilst maintaining every aspect of life that is important. It's a fine line to walk at times and we must balance the gap between the best physical, mental, and often most importantly.... emotional care.

Three Homes, One Standard of Exceptional Care

Each Taking the Journey home offers a welcoming, family-style environment where residents receive the highest level of individualized care. While every location has its own personality and charm, all three share the same commitment from Kelly, Kisa, and their dedicated care team: compassion, dignity, and meaningful daily engagement.

Across all three homes, families can expect consistent staffing, engaging activities, home-cooked meals, and compassionate care tailored to each individual. No matter which location becomes home, your loved one will be met with warmth, respect, and a community that truly feels like family.

Testimonials

  • When your loved is no longer safe to live alone at home, Kelly’s Taking the Journey board & care homes are not only the next best thing to home, but perhaps even better—all the comforts of home, with ample staff of caring, capable, fun-loving helpers.

  • Moving our parents from their home with 24 caregivers to Journey has been the best decision and I wish we did it sooner. Kelly, Kisa and their team of caregivers have taken wonderful, thoughtful care of both my mother and father. One year after they arrived, my fathers passed away. Journey helped us get hospice and they worked together with hospice smoothing the process of dying for my father and us. Thank you so much. Our mother continues to live comfortably at McSween Lane Journey for over 2 years now. The staff and Kelly are really kind and responsive to her needs and requests. Something else of note is it feels happy there with musicians coming, gardening in the yard, music at lunch, happy conversation with the staff and always jokes from Kelly. There you go. Thanks for all the help and care over the last 2 years Kelly and Kisa.

  • It was an extremely difficult decision to move Mom into a care home. Everyone at Taking the Journey quickly became family, helping to guide me through this phase. Mom liked the outdoor activities with the raised garden beds. She loved the sweet dog resident, Lucy. Lucy sat on her lap for hours. Lucy seemed to know when I needed some comfort too and would sit with me. The pets always brought smiles, fish, a bird, and even a horse visited. I was comfortable when visiting and I visited often…..they probably got tired of me. Of course, there were challenges, it is a difficult journey, but we worked through them together.

  • My father was a resident at Taking The journey. It was a wonderful experience for myself and for my father. The atmosphere was always welcoming and a warm home feeling. When my father‘s time had come to an end, I was so happy that he had left in a loving caring environment I could never thank Taking The journey enough for what they gave to my father.

  • Taking The Journey has been a Godsend for our family. From the caring and compassionate administrators (Kelly & Kisa Eriksen) to the daily caregivers, the placement of my mother at this facility has been a blessing in disguise. My mother’s last “journey” in life could not have been facilitated more lovingly without the daily care provided by Kelly and his team. I personally, have appreciated the daily updates on Mom's well being. I will be forever grateful for their daily routine care, management of her medications, companionship, and actual concern given to my mother during her “final journey” in life.

  • I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the exceptional care my parents have received since moving into your facility. Their memory and mobility issues made it impossible for them to continue living independently, and your staff has consistently provided them with patient and kind support. Thank you for everything you do.

Beyond quality care we also provide quality food.

Nutritious, delicious meals are an essential part of life at Taking the Journey. We believe food should bring comfort, joy, and connection—not just meet dietary needs. Our residents enjoy home-cooked meals made with fresh ingredients, thoughtfully prepared to accommodate individual preferences, cultural backgrounds, and specialized dietary requirements. Mealtimes are shared around the table, creating a sense of family and community, often filled with conversation, laughter, and familiar favorites. Whether it’s a favorite childhood dish, a warm soup on a chilly day, or fresh produce from the garden, we take pride in offering food that nourishes both body and spirit, supporting overall health, happiness, and quality of life.
