The People Behind the Care
We believe that care, beit physical, cognitive, or emotional.... requires a very unique type of individual to maintain OUR standards in care. We must be consistent in so many ways while at the same time, tailoring our approach to the individual. Care of this stature simply isn't possible on a large scale. Care is intimate.
Kelly and Kisa Eriksen opened Taking the Journey 12 years ago while still in their 20s. We understood what we wanted to achieve and how we wanted to achieve it. We understood care. Everything else, we learned along the way and continue to learn each and every day.

Kisa and Kelly had experience in care, experience in food service, experience with dementia in our own family, and experience with hospice when Kelly's father passed from pancreatic cancer.
We were not happy with options available to our own family at the time of our personal struggles. Therefore we decided to transform our home into a care setting. Not without heartache, sweat, and tears.... we instantly fell in love with what we were doing. Still in touch with our first families all these years later. No one wanted to be the first few residents moving into a brand new care home ran essentially by kids in their 20s. Therefore, our first few residents were those that struggled to gain placement elsewhere due to heavy care needs. As hard as these first folks were, they became our family. We owe much to these wonderful folks and families for molding us into who we are today. 8 years later, we had the opportunity to open our 2nd home. 2 years after that, we opened our 3rd. We truly pride ourselves on being one of the best care settings in our area. We will continue to grow until such a time arises that we feel OUR standards in care..... I say again, OUR STANDARDS in care, have shifted in the slightest. We pride ourselves on being a small intimate and personalized care community. We will never change into the corporitization of care that sees our seniors as line items on a profit and loss sheet. We are proud of who we are, what we offer, and will never let that change.
